I would like to know about a typical work day in Brazil. What are some daily routines and rituals?
cj asked:
I need the information for a cultural analysis I have to do for my International Business class. Any information regarding work life,
daily routines, elements of culture reflected in the workplace, human resource policies, favorite work activities, and professional dress would be helpful and greatly appreciated.

- Brazilians freqüently smile and talk a lot
- they love barbecue with salad, beer and sushi (there are many japaneses in Brazil, specially in São Paulo). Brazilians will always love “feijoada”, beans and rice.
- they don’t like samba on their parties, but they love “Axe Music” and Rock on professional mettings.
- Don’t try to behave as a brazilian. They are too “expressive”, and when an American do that, it seems false.
- Brazilians like to make their professional meetings in some sunny and green country-house. Don’t forget the swimming pool and the soccer field (and volleyball).
- They like karaoke a lot.
- NEVER speak in Spanish with Brazilians. They will fell offended. Don’t come with the stereotipes of “Rio de Janeiro, Samba and Caipirinha”. They **** it (unless they live in Rio de Janeiro, but Brazil has 5.000 cities).
- NEVER say that Rio de Janeiro is the capital of Brazil, or its most important city (because it isn’t).
- Don’t come with taht idea that brazilians like to touch each other, they don’t like it. They will shake your hands and embrace you (maybe kiss), but after that, they won’t continue to touch).
- If you are in a country-house, you can dress informally.
- Brazilians like this singers and musics: Ivete Sangalo, Djavan, Guns and Roses, “Born to be wild”, Jota Quest, Skank (brazilian band), Shakira.
- Inside the office, Brazilians are puritans, with suit, social clothes. They respect authority and try to show good work. They don’t behave as they were in the middle of the Carnival (only in informal social mettings).
- another important issue: brazilian’s behavior varies according to the “race”. White brazilians behave like german, with a more serious face, and they are more critical to any negative observation that you make about Brazil. Black brazilians are more friendly and more “impulsive” than whites (and any other ethnical group). Japanese brazilians smile a lot, but they are somewhat shy and they like to show off. Different from japaneses from Japan, they like to shake hands, talk, embrace etc. Mixed brazilians are the “typical” brazilian, friendly, but not “extreme”, and they like foreigners and anything that sounds “new” or “exotic” for their eyes. You’ll probably find all these stereotypes
